ANTARCTIC DREAM EXPEDITION

DAY
1 - Ushuaia - Boarding on the M/N Antarctic Dream. Reception and
crew welcome. Lodgement in assigned cabin. Departure at 7:00 PM.
DAYS
2 and 3 - Navigation through the Drake Pass. It is the opportunity
to admire the vastness that separate the American extreme South
from the Antarctic continent. Errant albatross, cape petrels and
several species of sea birds escort the ship during the navigation.
The famous Drake Pass was discovered in XVI Century by the English
corsair Sir Francis Drake. In 1819 the English explorer William
Smith describes the South Shetland islands as "a desert land
covered by snow and populated by fur-bearing seals".
DAY 4 - The
Rey Jorge Island is a good preliminary advanced vision of the
Antarctic as it is the main entrance to the white continent. It
is the largest island of the South Shetland isles. If the weather
conditions are good enough, short helicopter over flights will
be done to admire the immensity and beauty of the landscape. In
case the weather conditions would be adverse, we will be landing
at Potter Creek. In the afternoon, landing at Aitcho island, part
of South Shetland isles, between Greenwich and Robert islands,
in order to observe some marine mammals. The navigation follows
crossing the Bansfield Strait and the Strait of Gerlache, the
entrance to Andvord Bay where the Neko Bay is located.
DAY 5 - Antarctic
Peninsula - Neko Bay -
Apart from
the amazing montain, ice and snow scenery, you will be able to
appreciate a great variety of wildlife in Antartica such as sea-gulls,
cape petrels and cormorants. Among the well know marine mammals
it is easy to recognise fur-bearing seals, dolphin-orca and a
lot of whales. First landing in Antarctic Continent (Neko bay)
and a new landing in Puerto Lockroy (Goudier island). The Neko
bay was discovered by the Belgian explorer Adrian de Gerlach.
Puerto Lockroy is located near to Wiencke island, in the Antarctica
peninsula and had a historical importance as base of the Tabarin
Operation.
DAY 6 - Pleneau
- Petermann Island - Navigation to the South through the Lemaire
channel, well known for its unique beauty. If the glacier and
weather conditions allow it, we will visit Petermann Island, the
southern point of our expedition. Landing at Petermann Island,
penguins Papua (Gentoo) colony habitat, also the southern of its
specie. On the way, an impressive zodiac expedition will be done
at Pleneau, admiring rare ice formation.
DAY 7 Paradise Bay - Cuverville Island - In the morning, if weather
conditions are good enough, disembark or zodiac cruise along Bahía
Paraíso bay. In the afternoon, visit to Cuverville Island.
Other than amazing landscapes, at this rocky island lives one
of the largest Papua and Skuas penguin colony. Cuverville is located
at the North of the Errea Canal, at the back of the Arctowski
peninsula.
DAY 8 - Decepción
Island - Whaler's Bay - Caleta Péndulo -
Navigation continues to Decepción Island, the main active
Volcano of the Brandfield Strait's marginal basin, located Northeast
from the Antartic peninsula. In the morning we will try to disembark
in Caleta Balleneros and Caleta Pendulo, where it could live the
unique experience of a bath. On the evening disembark in Hannah
Point (Livingston Island), one of the places with the largest
diversity of Antartic fauna.
DAYS 9 and 10 - Navigation through the Drake Crossing - We will
be leaving behind the Antarctic peninsula and heading North through
the Drake Crossing. The moment is perfect to remember and share
the adventures of the week and enjoy the excellent gastronomy
on board.
DAY 11 - Ushuaia
- Breakfast on board. Around 9:00 disembark and end of the cruise.
